Kentucky Equine Research maintains a herd of research horses on its 150-acre farm in Central Kentucky. These experienced horses are KER’s most valuable employees and are meticulously cared for by a large staff. Learn more about KER’s research horse program here.

Meet Malibu, a Thoroughbred gelding and former racehorse. He sold for $300,000 as a yearling at Keeneland. From 24 starts, he earned two wins, three seconds, and four thirds with earnings of nearly $51,000.

Malibu joined the sport horse herd at KER in the spring of 2016 before moving to the research herd that fall. He learned how to run on the treadmill with ease and has already participated in palatability and scoping studies. Malibu is well-built, a good mover, and unfazed by spotlight. Because of this, he has become one of KER’s favorite horses for treadmill demos and photoshoots.

KER welcomes any visitors interested in seeing the farm and meeting the horses. Make an appointment to stop by for a visit!
